This is Libby - the most playful dog we met at ECCHA and we spent a lot of time with her. She is a 2 year old, spayed female, who thinks she is still a puppy. She is a Labrador retriever mix and was surrender by her parents due to her high energy. She is house broken, knows to sit and is very friendly with both dogs and cats. She is also park friendly, but unfortunately has a bad habit of chasing vehicles. Hence, she is looking for a home with a fenced yard, that would keep her safe from the vehicle monsters.

She got really playful with me, when I gave her some treats and kept leaning in for a good scratch behind the ears.

Then of course, you cant just stop with ear scratches. How about a good belly rub now?

Carter is a one and half year old Collie mix, who was a stray and been at ECCHA for about 2 weeks. He seems to have been trained a little. We moved indoors due to rain and it happened to be the room through which the dogs were taken outside for walks. Carter and some of the other doggies we met, knew the room too well and of course, were interested in stepping out for some fun! It was fun watching Carter move from the door to us for some petting and treats and to Amy for a little play and back again to the door. He is so smart and friendly that he is going to make his parents proud!

Amy and Shankar had to wait in one of the kennels, for all the dogs that were outside to go back to their enclosures, when it started pouring. Amy was not happy to be waiting inside and not be actually playing with these dogs.

She was slobbering so much, seeing all the dogs!

Bentley is a 9 month old Chihuahua mix puppy, who has not had a good turn in life until recently. The first time he came to the ECCHA was when the owner suffered from bad allergies and could not keep him any longer. He got adopted out, but was brought back to the humane association, as he was said to be aggressive to other dogs. However, when we let Amy play with him, he did not mind her presence at all, and was not aggressive when we were giving treats to both of them. He is currently being trained by Prof. Dan Holt and team of BARC. Bentley is learning fast and will soon outgrow his puppy tendencies. We wish him a good home soon!

No, thats correct, not Bark, but BARC - Behavioral Analysis Research in Canines. Professor Dan Holt (with his student Eric Barney below) is helping the animals at the ECCHA by applying their research.

Professor Dan Holt, faculty member in Psychology at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, has been visiting ECCHA everyday, for almost 3 weeks now, with his students. Their goal is to make less adoptable dogs more adoptable. They have been doing Positive Reinforcement Training and teach dogs basic social and attending skills. This will make it easier for the dogs to find good homes soon. They are also willing to go to the homes after the dogs are adopted to help the new parents continue the training for the dogs. We say thats awesome!

This is Zues, a one year old American Staffordshire Terrier who knows to sit, stay, down, come, fetch and to shake hands. He was very friendly with me, and also obedient, including sitting for the picture here when asked.

Zues came to the ECCHA, as his parents got a divorce and were moving. He loves to lie on furniture and to go to the park. He took his treat gently from me and I didn’t hear him bark at all! Amy did not get to meet him, as it started to rain and all the dogs outside were coming in though the corridor we were in, and she was sooo excited seeing them go by.

When we were playing with Hampson, Renatta, was also outside, playing with someone who used to be a volunteer and also used to rehabilitate her breed. Renatta is a American Pit Bull Terrier mix. At 9 months, she is still a puppy and looking for a home where she can grow up.

Renatta came to the ECCHA as a stray in June 2006. She was adopted a few days back, actually two days before we visited. She was brought back within 23 hours, as the new parents could not handle her puppy behavior. She is a wonderful girl, loved to be petted and wanted only to play with Amy. With the right training, she would, no doubt, be a wonderful addition to a family.
