One Dog and Two Birds

Bringing more joy to our lives

Paper Towel Parcels June 27, 2008

I wanted to change some of the toys in the birds cage and doing it is impossible when Nikko and Pepper are on it. They don’t like me to put my hand in the cage and mess around. As you know, birds are creatures of habits and don’t approve of change. So, they were left on the perch on the table and to distract them from what I was upto, I wrapped some sunflower seeds in a small piece of paper towel, tied it with a little cotton and gave it to them.

As always Nikko wants everything first. He is also the one who investigates everything first. He saw me wrapping the seeds and knew right away what the packet meant.

I gave another one to Pepper. She likes to shred tissues and paper towels, so was more interested in that. She was surprised I put the seeds in it than just give them to her.

Then, Nikko obviously wanted what Pepper has, dropped his packet and went for a tug-of-war with hers. Though she doesn’t like to, she always give in to his demands, otherwise he would just keep pestering her. He is a spoiled little brat baby!

Amy and the Goats June 24, 2008

Our friends Rick & Chris have a farm with a few goats and a lot of cows. They also run a greenhouse from where almost all of our plants came from. We go there quite often and as you all know Amy goes with us wherever we go for the most part. A few weeks back when we were at the farm, Amy decided to check out the goats that were inside an enclosure.

As far as we know, Amy hasn’t been around goats before; she thought they were different kinds of dogs and wanted to play with them. However, the goats were a little rattled by the presence of a dog as big as Amy (since Rick’s dogs are small terriers) and were not happy with her efforts to sniff them.

This week when we visited again, the goats were roaming outside, and decided they wanted to chase Amy. For a  while Amy was being playful around them and the goats were pursuing her. Finally, Emily, the black goat in the picture (who also acts as their leader) decided she had enough and head-butted Amy! Amy gave a small yelp, more from the shock that the goat was actually attacking. She was not injured nor was it painful or anything, because in another minute or so, she was back trying to get the goats to play. Finally Shankar had to put the goats back in their pen to keep Amy away from them.

Long day… June 22, 2008

With the weather being nice most of the time (except when we have thunderstorms), Amy gets to spend a lot of time outside. Whenever I am doing things in the garden, Amy patrols around the house, checks out the boundaries, and tries to move all her balls around. She also gets to play fetch a lot, and after a long day outside, gets to lounge on the lawn. The only thing missing in her life is another dog to play with all day long.

Back with a new look June 19, 2008

We had a very busy spring semester and now enjoying the summer. With so much going on we definitely have been slacking on keeping the blog updated. Last few weeks have been a lot of work in the garden, and we have been visiting the pond regularly for swimming. We got a lot to write about and hope to be active on the blogosphere. Hope you all like the new look 🙂
